Find a single word that completes the first sentence, then split that same word into smaller words to complete the second sentence.

Storylines is a daily word puzzle where your mission is to find a single word that can be split into two or more new words to complete a pair of related sentences.
Each puzzle gives you two sentences with blanks. The first blank needs one word. The second blank needs that same word broken apart with spaces. For example, STEPSON becomes STEPS ON. The challenge is finding the word that works both ways while making sense in context.
- Read both sentences carefully to understand the full story.
- Find a word that fits the first blank naturally.
- Check if that word can split into smaller words for the second blank.
- Type your answer and verify it works in both contexts.
- A new puzzle drops every day.
How it works:
The game presents mini stories where wordplay drives the solution. You might see a sentence about someone's stepson, followed by a sentence where he "steps on" his laces. The answer is always hiding in plain sight once you spot the pattern.
Some puzzles are straightforward. Others require you to think about compound words, phrases, or less obvious divisions. The satisfaction comes from that lightbulb moment when you see how one word transforms into another meaning entirely.
Why we like it:
- β Clever enough to make you pause, but solvable without a dictionary.
- β The storytelling adds personality to what could be a dry word mechanic.
- β That double meaning payoff feels earned every single time.
Hint: Start by thinking about compound words or common phrases that could split naturally. If the second sentence seems to describe an action or multiple concepts, you're probably looking for a word that breaks into verbs or nouns.
